H….P….What? HPV!

It is important for students to understand what HPV is, because it is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs), that affects both females and males. Many people aren’t aware that they have it, until they get checked -if they get checked- because HPV is often asymptomatic. Whilst the disease usually clears itself up, HPV has the potential to turn into several cancers of the reproductive system and the oropharynx and cause pain and discomfort. The HPV vaccine protects youth and adults from contracting this disease during intimate relations.

For this week’s blog we were also asked to create questions that could be used in a Kahoot! or online quiz activity in response to a video on HPV. This Kahoot! can be found by following the link below:

As a participatory approach to HPV, students could form small groups and create a project to build awareness and knowledge on vaccinations and HPV. Groups are then required to present their projects to the class and vote on each other’s projects creativity, information and effectiveness. Group projects will be showcased during the school’s health week festivities for all students, staff and parents to see and will give students ownership over their work. By giving students the ability to create change and empowering them to inform the public student’s will effectively be taking responsibility over their health decisions and informing others how to do the students also build public health awareness.
